Mrs. Audrey's Daycare
Circle time- The children learn about weather, colors, a letter of the day, and share something they would like to talk about.
Reading time- This is a time designated to reading books. The lights go down and we prepare for nap by relaxing with friends and fishing through my book box. I have over 300 children's titles so the books are new every week.
Playtime- Often overlooked as a learning period of the day, playtime is the most important time of day. This is a when the kids choose their activity and socialize with friends. This often includes make believe. I have a dress up box the kids love to dress themselves with and pretend. There is a writing station for coloring, gluing, stamping and stuffing envelopes. I have a large room with little furniture
Outdoor time- In the summer we spend more time outside than inside. The kids love to plant and tend to a garden every year. I have a water table and a playhouse. I like to run and kick a ball or practice going up and down the stairs. We have 3 plum trees, one cherry tree and one very large apple tree so we pick fruit all summer and into the fall.
Art time- I am a painter. We do a lot of drawing, painting and other mixed media throughout the year. If the kids don't want to do a planned activity, that's okay, sometimes the kids simply want to cut a magazine. This is when I might add some learning about shapes and the kiddos don't even know they're learning.
In the kitchen- Sometimes I like to cook with the kids. This is always a safe, planned activity. We might make jello and the kids add their own ingredients. Sometimes it's cutting shapes into sandwiches or cheese with cookie cutters. It depends on the day.
